Kings Guard Gaming to Stream Virtual Preseason NBA 2K Tournament on Twitch

On Monday, March 23, Kings Guard Gaming, the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, will join three other teams for a virtual, open stream, round-robin tournament hosted by Hornets Venom GT. Teams will play the NBA 2K video game against one another online, where fans around the world can tune in via Twitch.tv/KingsGuardGG. During the NBA hiatus, remote tournaments like this will give fans the opportunity to enjoy live action and engage with Kings Guard Gaming players.

Joining Kings Guard Gaming in the tournament will be:

  • Hornets Venom GT – the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Charlotte Hornets,
  • Warriors Gaming Squad – the official NBA 2K League affiliate of the Golden State Warriors – and,
  • Gen.G Tigers of Shanghai, the first international team of the NBA 2K League.

Each team will participate in the tournament virtually from their respective home market. Kings Guard Gaming players will be modeling social distancing and will play seated six feet apart from their home in Sacramento. The round-robin tournament will be a best of three series, with the two best teams competing in a final series for experience and bragging rights All tiebreakers will be determined by total game record followed by point differential.

“The team been practicing day in and day out and are so excited to participate in this round-robin tournament,” said Kings Guard Gaming Head Coach Del Layton. “The NBA 2K League is a blend of the fan-favorite sport of basketball with the competitive nature of esports. This preseason action will be a first look at the league and a must-watch event.”

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, the NBA 2K League has postponed the start of the 2020 season. Fans will continue to be able to access the excitement of the NBA 2K League through remote preseason exhibitions like the one on Monday. Kings Guard Gaming will participate in its third season in the NBA 2K League as one of 23 total franchises who will compete in the upcoming 2020 season. Kings Guard enters the new season coming off its first postseason appearance in 2019 under the leadership of Head Coach DJ “TTPLOADING” Layton, who will return to lead the team this season.

On February 22, Kings Guard selected forward Rafel “Crush” Davis, guard Matthew “Bash” Robles and guard Hayden “Nasthetic” Caudle amongst 229 eligible picks in the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft. These rookies will join veteran players Waseem “BallLikeSeem” Talbert, Connor “DatBoyShotz” and Yusuf “Yusuf_Scarbz” Abdulla, who was named to the 2019 Intel Performance SZN 2 All-Defensive Team.

Starting on Friday, March 27, Kings Guard Gaming will participate in the NBA 2K League’s first-ever “NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown,” an online 3-on-3 tournament which will feature fan-organized teams, top 2K players and social media influencers. All participating teams will compete in the NBA 2K20 MyPark game mode for the chance to play against NBA 2K League teams and a share of a $25,000 prize pool. Fans can watch NBA 2KL Three for All Showdown games on the NBA 2K League Twitch and YouTubechannels.
