Del Layton Named Kings Guard Gaming General Manager
Today Kings Guard Gaming, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, announced Lavel Cole as the team’s head coach. In addition, Del Layton was named General Manager of Kings Guard Gaming.
“After five seasons with Kings Guard Gaming, I’m thankful for the opportunity to take on this new position,” said Kings Guard Gaming General Manager Del Layton. “I’m thrilled to work with Lavel as we strive to inspire gamers to be their best in pursuit of team excellence.”
“I’m excited to bring my experience as a player and assistant coach into my role as head coach of Kings Guard Gaming,” said Kings Guard Gaming Head Coach Lavel Cole. “It’s a tremendous privilege to lead this team and I look forward to getting to work.”
Cole moves up to head coach after serving as the squad’s assistant coach during the 2023 NBA 2K League season. Prior to joining Kings Guard Gaming, Cole served as head coach for Fire Sticks Gaming. Cole was a top prospect in multiple NBA 2K League drafts before transitioning to coaching in 2020. Cole is a Brooklyn, New York native and attended Syracuse University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
Layton becomes General Manager of Kings Guard Gaming after serving as the squad’s head coach for the past five seasons. Prior to his time in Sacramento, Layton was the head coach at Faith West Academy in Katy, Texas, a coach for Katy Select Basketball and a coach with CoachUp, a service that connects athletes with private coaches. Additionally, Layton has played 2K since 1999 – the first version of NBA 2K – while playing competitively from 2K11-2K19. The Kings Guard Gaming GM is a Katy native, who played basketball at Western Technical College and majored in kinesiology and minored in business administration.
Kings Guard Gaming holds picks 4, 7, and 10 in the upcoming 2024 NBA 2K League Draft, which takes place on Thursday, January 11. Fans can watch the draft on the 2K League’s YouTube and Twitch channels.
