Kings Guard Gaming and College Esports International (CESI) Team Up for Second Annual Collegiate Esports Finals at Golden 1 Center

Universities From Across the Country Set to Converge in Sacramento in September for One of the Largest Esports Tournaments of its Kind

Today, Kings Guard Gaming, the NBA 2K League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings, and College Esports International (CESI) are excited to announce the return of the Collegiate Esports Finals set to take place in Sacramento, CA, from September 9-11. The early rounds of the competition will occur in regional settings like the FireUp Esports Lounge in Roseville, while the semi-finals and finals will be played at the world’s most technologically advanced arena, Golden 1 Center, for the second consecutive year.

Teams from top universities across the nation will compete in the wildly popular esports games Rocket League and League of Legends. This year’s event will also feature a cosplay competition for fans;  entertainment from DJs, Break Free Worldwide break dancers, local celebrity dancers from Sac Underground and students from Studio 65; appearances by celebrity sports figures; and vendor booths showcasing opportunities for students to connect to career pathways in esports, technology and innovation. During the CESI 2022 semi-finals and finals on Sunday, September 11, Kings Guard Gaming will host interactive experiences, including live commentary from a Kings personality as well as a booth for fans to try their hand at 2K. In addition, Kings Guard will provide the 2022 CESI Rocket League Tournament MVP a 1-month pro contract with the team to experience life in pro esports.

All 2021 participating teams will return this year, including returning champions CSU Fullerton and runner-up University of Colorado, Boulder. The tournament will also feature several new schools including Loyola Marymount University; California State University, Dominguez Hills; San Jose State University; Fresno State University, Ithaca College (New York); Weber State (Utah); George Fox University (Oregon); Barry University (Florida); Emporia State University (Kansas) and Paradise Valley College (Arizona), as well as local teams from UC Davis, Sacramento State and William Jessup University.
