Get to Know: Bash

We got the chance to catch up with one of Kings Guards newest members after the 2020 NBA 2K League Draft. Here’s what Matt Robles aka Bash had to say.

What was going through your mind on Draft Day leading up to the draft?

I was a little bit nervous because I went undrafted last year but I also felt like I was a first round talent and there was no way I could be denied this season. I put in way too much work, got my name out there way more this year, and I earned a lot of people’s respect. I felt like I did everything I had to do for a team to believe in me.

How did it feel to have your name called?

This is a feeling that will forever be hard to explain. Watching it with my family, my girlfriend, and friends was honestly such a blessing and I can’t even explain how surreal it felt.

How long have you been playing 2K?

I’ve been playing since 2K15 but started playing competitively in 2K18.

Who are some of the biggest influences in your life?

The biggest influence to me was my cousin Sebastian who passed away on July 10th, 2018.

He was my best friend and I considered him a brother to me and not just a cousin. He’s the reason I put everything aside and chased my dreams and I couldn’t thank him enough for everything that he did for me and I can’t wait to make him proud.

My family is also huge, they have all been by my side supporting me throughout this journey.

My girlfriend has played a big part and was always there for me through thick and thin. I’m so blessed to have someone like her.

What is one of the biggest obstacles you’ve had to overcome to get where you are now?

The biggest thing was going undrafted, I sat in my room thinking ‘now what do I do?’ for a couple hours. Then I realized I’ve never given up on something in my life that easy and there’s no way I can start now. So from that point on I looked at what I could’ve done differently to put myself into a better situation and that there was one no one else to be mad at but myself. I just worked 10 times harder to make myself a lock to be drafted for Season 3.

What do you bring to the table as a 2K player?

I bring a lot of energy, good vibes, leadership, and most importantly just making sure we build a family in what we’re doing by having fun and trusting each other.

What are your expectations heading into the season?

Mainly to just make the best of it, have as much fan as I can, become the best possible version of myself that I can be. Also to lead the team in any possible way that I can.

What are your thoughts on moving to and living in Sacramento?

It’s a blessing I grew up in California and what’s better than staying in this state to do something I love?

What do you like to do outside of playing 2K?

I like playing basketball, working out, studying film, and listening to music.

What is one thing you would want every Kings Guard fan to know about you?

Be ready for a lot of energy that’s what I’m going to bring to this team. We’re going to be a lot of fun to watch.
